Our Vision Mission and Goal
Vision and Mission
The Vision of SAIL is to see healthy and sustainable minority language communities
(MLCs) experiencing peace, equality, and justice.
SAIL has over the years developed expertise and gained extensive experience in working with language development and minority language communities. This expertise and experience places SAIL/SIL-B in a unique position to facilitate the intersection of language, culture (identity) and holistic development in minority language communities. SAIL/SIL-B exists as a non-profitable, non-political, and non-government organisation based on Christian values and principles whose mission is to support MLCs to flourish, through facilitating their own language and holistic development, and supporting these communities to advocate for their rights, dignity, and access to social services and justice.
Goal
The GOAL (Overall Objective) of SAIL is to help build sustainable and resilient MLCs, through the integration of language, culture, and integrated development.

SAIL
SAIL Values
1. Complete Reliance on Divine Leadership and Guidance: Originating from its Christian heritage,
SAIL aims to conduct all its activities in the spirit of faith and dependence on the Divine.
2. Centrality of Language and Culture to Identity and Empowerment: SAIL believes that a
person’s language and culture are intrinsic to their own personal and social development, and that
being able to claim your right to speak and access services in your own language is a key to a persons
and community’s social identity and empowerment.
3. Unity in Diversity: SAIL respects all people, irrespective of their gender, nationality, ethnicity
and religion. To this end SAIL/SIL-B aims to ensure that gender equality, ethnic diversity and religious
tolerance lie at the heart of the organisation.
4. Sacrificial Service with Compassion and Integrity: SAIL aims to serve from a position of
empathy and identification and aims to ensure all its activities are embedded in, and informed by, the
communities it is called to serve.
5. Godly Stewardship of Resources: SAIL values honesty and high moral principles and therefore
aims to work in ways that demonstrate its commitment to these values, builds trust and transparency,
and demonstrates good stewardship of resources.
6. Building Local Capacity: SAIL aims to take the approach of always walking alongside and in
support of the individuals and communities it serves, enabling these individual and communities to
take full responsibility for their own development and claiming their rights.
7. Holistic Care for the Creation: SAIL acknowledges that indigenous communities have a deep
connection to their environment, land, and creation. Holistic development of indigenous communities
therefore must also include care for creation.
